Seriously.

In 1931 somebody left the Lieutenant Governor in charge and while at the helm (pun intended) he appointed several guys as Admirals for the State of Nebraska. Some notable members are: Gene Autry, Johnny Carson, George W. Bush, Jack Benny and Martin Luther King III.

Okay, in reality it’s not as goofy as it sounds. The Nebraska Admirals are a group dedicated to “the promotion and enhancement of the ‘Good Life of the State of Nebraska.’” They serve as ambassadors and help with state tourism and economic projects.

Their website is sketchy, leaving a lot of mystery to the organization. At some points they seem like a legitimate charitable organization (they’re a 501 c group), but at other points they seem to have secret rituals, like “walking the plank.” Hmmm.

What Do You Think?

Are these guys legit? Would you want to join the Nebraska Admirals? Let us know in the comments!
