Recently, a British soldier had to make a quick choice when a grenade landed on the rooftop where he and his commander were fighting. During an intense firefight in Afghanistan, a grenade came flying up from the ground, hit is commander in the chest and fell at their feet. Rifleman James McKie didn’t have much time to think. “I’ve really only got one chance to do this,” he said to himself. Then he did something pretty amazing.

He threw it back.

In another situation, PFC Ross McGinnis, an American soldier didn’t have the luxury of time to think when a grenade was thrown down through his gunner’s hatch and into his HMMWV. He dropped down into the vehicle’s cab, using his body to absorb the blast, saving the lives of his crewmembers. For his sacrifice, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

What would you do if a grenade fell at your feet in combat? Try to throw it back, risking harm to yourself and everyone around you? Or would you just dive on it and save your crew?
